Bush to Nation: “You Must Ski!”

A little publicized component of the administration’s economic stimulus package is the Presidential declaration ordering all Americans to go skiing or snowboarding this coming weekend, President’s Weekend, February 16, 17 and 18.

Given the excellent snow conditions, great learn-to-ski programs and the money-saving packages available at New Mexico resorts right now, there is no reason why each and every able-bodied man, woman, and child shouldn’t be complying with this directive from the White House. Southern Rockies Reservations is stepping up to do our part by brining on our special "A Team" staff to insure that you have a fabulous time this President's Weekend. Don't let your Commander in Chief down. Sign your family up today. See this web site for further instructions and the numbers to call!

Santa Fe: More than Great Skiing

One the best reasons to choose Santa Fe as your winter vacation destination is that there are so many things to do In Santa Fe. An off-slope option is a vist to one of the Museum of New Mexico's fasacinating museums. My favorite is the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture located on Museum Hill on Santa Fe's east side. This fine musem tells the stories of the Native American people of the Southwest from pre-historic through contemporary times. Its changing exhibitions draw from an unparalleled collection of Native American art and material culture representing the Pueblo, Navajo, Apache, and other indigenous cultures of the Southwest.

So if you're looking for a break from Ski Santa Fe's excellent mountain check out the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture. It is open Tuesdays through Sundays, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Love Is In the Air

Love IS in the air at New Mexico's ski resorts. You'll see it falling from the heavens ... large, white, downy flakes of snow the skiers and snowboarders just love like nothing else!

Right now, you will find the best snow conditions in years at ski areas around the Land of Enchantment. In the last week, some resorts in the north have picked up over 30" of fluffy white stuff. And now is a great time to come skiing, because you can save on lift tickets, lessons, lodging and more. And hey, what are you and your sweetie doing for Valentine's Day? How about a romantic weekend in the mountains just for the two of you. Oh yeah, love IS in the air!

No More Yelling at Your Shoes

Texasreds_1  My days of carousing about the town till the crack of dawn (and yelling at my shoes) are pretty much over, but if they weren't, I'd be living it up in Red River, New Mexico.  You know what they say, "A mortgage, a car, a job; boy did I screw up!"  Last time I actually did go carousing was in Red River and I had the best tour guide you could have.  His name is Wally Dobbs and he is pretty much world famous.  He lives in Red River, New Mexico (and Austin, TX) and he's pretty much the ambasador to good times.  He spends his summers traveling around the south preaching the gospel of skiing and in the winter he teaches skiing at Red River and runs the Lift House bar.

Last time he took me around, we hit the Bull of the Woods Bar, Lift House Bar, Texas Reds and a number of other places I can't remember due too many Miller Lites.  Did I mention he has great taste in beer?  One thing I vividly remember is every "bubba" I ran into welcomed me like I knew them my whole life.  Usually it was a greeting like "How the Hell are you?"  In Red River, all are welcome.  Just be sure to bring your liver!
